IEP and 504 Meeting Participation

A knowledgeable advocate by your side—protecting your rights and your child’s future.

Individualized Education Program (IEP) and Section 504 Plan meetings are where life-changing decisions are made about your child’s education. These meetings can be filled with technical language, legal requirements, and complex decisions. We attend these meetings with you—virtually or in person—to ensure your child’s needs are understood, your rights are respected, and the right supports are put in place.

Our Role in Your Meeting

1. Pre-Meeting Strategy Session

Before the meeting, we:

  • Review your child’s evaluations, progress data, and current plan (if any)

  • Identify concerns, requests for resources, and any needed modifications

  • Outline your priorities and create an advocacy strategy

  • Discuss your legal rights under IDEA, Section 504, and state regulations

2. Protecting Rights During the Meeting

At the meeting, we:

  • Ensure the school follows procedural safeguards and timelines

  • Speak up if rights are overlooked or decisions are being rushed

  • Help keep the team focused on your child’s needs—not budget or convenience

  • Ask clarifying questions to ensure every service and accommodation is clearly defined

3. Securing the Right Resources

We help you request—and document—the supports your child needs, including:

  • Specialized instruction or therapies

  • Assistive technology or classroom accommodations

  • Medical Needs
  • Behavior support plans

  • Transition or vocational training

We  frame requests so they are aligned with both your child’s needs and the school’s legal obligations.

4. Post-Meeting Debrief & Escalation Support

After the meeting, we:

  • Review the notes and draft plan with you to ensure accuracy

  • Identify follow-up items and deadlines

  • Discuss next steps if the plan is inadequate, including requesting additional evaluations, reconvening the team, or escalating concerns to higher levels in the district

Why This Matters

IEP and 504 meetings determine whether your child will get the support they need to succeed. Without preparation and advocacy, important services can be missed or reduced. We ensure you’re not alone in the room—you have an experienced voice safeguarding both your child’s rights and your role as their parent.
